From Challenges to Triumphs: A Guide to Summer Prep

Thanksgiving and Black Friday are here, and we’re officially on the fast track into winter!

For camp pros, the "off-season" (ha!) is anything but quiet. It's conference season, recruitment season, policy-updating season—and don’t forget, it’s prime time to roll out new program ideas, tackle those lingering maintenance projects, and winterize your site. Budgets? Collateral updates? Software upgrades? Check, check, and check. Plus, let’s not forget thanking our donors and gearing up for next year’s fundraising efforts—all while processing last season’s data and planning for next year’s outcomes. And of course buying season is just around the corner as we work through hiring season. So, yeah… what DO we do "the rest of the year?"

Here’s the thing: with so much on our plates, it’s easy for all those big ideas to get bumped into the next year’s “off-season.” But that’s exactly why now—yes, right now—is the perfect time to get organized and intentional.

Check out my article From Challenges to Triumphs: A Guide to Summer Prep in the November/December 2024 edition of Camping Magazine for practical tips and tricks to help you maximize efficiency during this critical planning period. Let’s make this the season where hopes and dreams don’t get deferred—they get done!

Have a tried-and-true strategy for off-season success? Drop me a line—I’d love to hear about it!
